Many established workers are ready to quit their jobs these days if they can't work remotely, and we will observe a significant workforce shift.
Do you want to return to the office after reopening?
If yes, you have worked for your employer for some time and likely fall into the 12% of all office workers who want to go back full time. The majority is looking for a remote or hybrid workplace.
However, another category of workers would like to work 9 to 5 five days a week -- college students and recent graduates.
They fear that they'll miss out on the valuable skills and opportunities that traditional office work provided.
74% of young people say that remote work won't give them an equal sense of community, and 41% say they'll lack in-person mentoring and feedback on performance.
Among other things that the youngsters hope to get when working at an office are HQ amenities (such as gym and cafes), distraction-free workplaces, "extra motivation to go home at the end of the day, and the ability to separate work life from home life."
Clearly, such workers have different values as they don't have spouses or children yet, and need to build their network from scratch, compared to older employees.
Employers get an opportunity to find fresh blood that young people bring, and they are also eager to work at an office. We'll see more older people becoming self-employed and entrepreneurs, while more youngsters will work at the offices.
